Tuvalu. They sell the .tv to make money.
Profits from .tv sales are an important source of income for the people of Tuvalu. So far, money earned, among other things, has helped pay for education, health care and the paving of streets on Funafuti.

I think Erin7's answer is a good answer to your question. Some controversy exists on the name of the country though, some Americans call it Tivilandia. Ha, the above was pure fiction and a joke on television
----
There really is an island of Tuvalu, it is the second-least populated country in the world!!!!
For real ... its true ...

Granted wikipedia isn't always accurate, but yahoo search also gave me realistic results...
so unless its some kind of massive joke, Tuvalu is a country with a .tv extension!
Apparently, they produce so many websites because the extension is a "domain hack." Other domain hacks include fm, cd. It is also profitable to Tuvalu to sell that extension to other parties who think it is an extension of TV for television.

.tv is simply what it sounds like. It is a website about a television show or something else on television.
