I currently have a 50 gallon aquarium that has about 8 black mollies. The females have died off and all that are left are males. I want to introduce other fishes and am curious to know what fish can coexist with black mollies.

I have a tank of mollies, platies, guppies, a swordtail and a few danios (zebras and blues). Almost all tropical community fish are okay with mollies.

Ask at your local pet store. Remember that they can get about 3 inchs so don't get anything too small. Other livebearers (like the fish i suggested above, excluding danios because they're egg layers) are a great match as they get similar in size and temperment. Some can even interbreed too. I would also get some female mollies, doesn't matter what type, as the males can become aggressive if there's no outlet for their hormones lol.

The main ones not to put them with are: goldfish, cichlids, sharks, and angel fish.

I once owned black mollies. I learned they like brackish water (a little salt added). It makes them more healthy and they live longer. However, many other fish do not like the salt. You should read up a little more on that before you try it.

As for other fish, most other community fish will do just fine with your mollies. Swordfish were some of my favorites.

goldfish, guppies, platies . . . - when you go to the pet store under the tank with the black mollies should be a description of the type of fish and it should also say what other fish they can live with - if not then ask someone who works there and they should be able to tell you

Any fish that is labeled as a "community" fish, and not small enough for them to swallow. You might be able to put in some of the smaller semi-aggressive fish like angels, and gouramis.

all other live bearers make good tankmates.most mollies are docile towards almost all other fish species, just don't get a species that grows much larger than the mollies, otherwise the may get eaten.

I certainly have a tank with various fish an eel, and 2 albino frogs in it. The frogs are large in the tank with the others. The salt won't harm the frogs. i do no longer understand something concerning to the African Dwarf Frogs, however the type that I certainly have are large in those circumstances.
