Is this a joke? Buffon is simply the best in the world, with Cech second and Dida 3rd.

No contest...It's Buffon by a mile. How the hell can you equate a keepers ability based on the fact they can save a penalty????????? It's mind boggling. Listen, any decent goalkeeper can save badly hit penalties. What makes a great goalkeeper is their consistency throughout 90 or 120 mins...in every game they play. Buffon commands his box...is an outstanding shot stopper and rarely...RARELY makes a mistake. Ricardo..lets see...he saves a few badly hit penalties...but...drops umpteen crosses...punches the ball when he should catch and his decision making leaves a lot to be desire. Furthermore, he makes easy saves look spectacular, just for the cameras. Forget it, he's made so many mistakes for both his club (Sporting) and Portugal it's laughable. Gigi Buffon is the best keeper in the world and any professional footballer, the people that play the game...along with fellow goalkeepers will acknowledge that fact.

Bear with me for the logic. Buffon gets paid more because he plays for Juventus while Ricardo has played for lesser known teams such as Boavista FC and Sporting Lisbon. Don't expect on Ricardo playing for lesser known clubs for much longer though, especially with his World Cup performance. That settles the salary issue. As for experience, think about it. Ricardo is 30 and Buffon is 28. Unlike those who thought that Buffon is older. Neither goalie has reached their peak yet. For goalie's their peak is usually around the age of 32 because by then it's not a game of physique but instead a game of experience. Remember Kahn and the many other goalie's who have retired? The reason Buffon seems like a better goalie is because his team won. Don't forget that the Italian defense with Cannavaro is better than the Portugal defense. And don't forget that Portugal had to play tougher teams than Italy. (Italy played Ghana, Czech, US, Australia, Ukraine, and Germany while Portugal played Angola, Iran, Mexico, Netherlands, England, and Germany). All in all, I think it's safe to say that Ricardo is a tad bit better. `=]

Ricardo. How much Buffon gets paid is not necessarily a reflection of the fact that he is the best. They are both good goalies, but Ricardo does it for me.

It's a tie between Ricardo and Lehmann. Buffon comes second just because he could save a single penalty int he final.

Buffon.
Ricardo was better at blocking penalty kicks.
But overall, Buffon is better, that's why he got the award.

Definitely Ricardo!!! I haven't noticed anything special about Buffon...so what if he's the highest paid and named the goalkeeper...he hasn't proved up to his title. Ricardo by far has done a WAY BETTER job than him!

Buffon. Right now he is the best goal keeper in the world. Remember Buffon saves three penalties in the 2002 Champions league. (although they lost) He is the best goalkeeper. Also if anybody came second in goalkeepers it would be Iker Casilas.

Ricardo's really good at penalty kicks. . . or at least he always guesses the RIGHT way. But Buffon isn't so good at penalty kicks, but certainly gets his hand on the ball when people try and make a shot.
