because the usa lacks motivation. in many countries, the sport they play is the only thing they have to look to. like in venezuela and dominican republic, the only thing they have is baseball. or like in europe, they have soccer. theese people play the sports they're whole life. and they love to win. the us loves to make money, win or lose.

Because only football (NFL) matters in the USA. We might have some nestalgia for baseball, but lets face it: Americans love the Super Bowl, not the World Series. And every other nation has those same feelings for another game by the same name, foot ball, aka soccer.

I think so because we are selves are under achievers. As long as we do good their fine. Another thing is we focus to hard on the sports here and well the coaches don't always recruit the best players. I have seen guys playing basketball on the streets who are way better then some of the guys in the NBA.

because international sports require too much time that americans don't have and you can't get a huge paycheck from it. Americans worship money. Also, many Americans are close minded and won't put effort or funds into sports that were created by different cultures. There's a lot of ignorance here in the US, how do you think Bush was elected?

Soccer I understand why we lose. It is huge for the under-12 crowd, but fewer and fewer kids participate in it as they age.
Watching the Olympics was obvious why we lost in Basketball. We had 12 players playing one-on-five against the other teams. No team play, just guys trying to do it on their own.
Baseball is huge overseas. In Latin America, it is actually exceeding soccer in popularity. It is was popular in Japan, but is spreading to other countries like Korea as well. Even Australia is getting in on the act.
The US is competing against some countries where kids spend a lot of their waking hours on the diamond. Here, the kids just don't play it like they used to years ago.

Because soccer is not a sport. It is just good exercise and a fun pastime that those eurotrash losers can act pretentious about. Notice how they do not play baseball? They think anything American is lowbrow...
We may suck at soccer but our kids are not starving.

They might be good against other Americans but when it comes to facing people from other countries they are useless.
