Is the odor apparent after you turn on the air conditioning? If so, you have a clogged evaporator hose.....clear out the clog and the smell will go away

I've been told by a friend that if you put some vanilla extract in a dish and leave it in your car overnight, it will draw out the odor. I haven't tried it myself, but she says it works wonders!
Good luck!

You probably have mildew in your heater box, and in your vents, that's why you smell it when the vehicle is started. Go to an auto parts store and ask for some heater/ac box de-odorizer.

First of all, how old is your car, otherwise go to the dealer service centre and give it to them for a detailed cleaning.

Find the origin of the odor and get some vinegar in that location.

This stuff really works, don't know if you can get it at Wal-Mart etc., but trust me, I tried everything else.
