Depends on what he/she stands for. I'm not voting for ANYBODY just because of some physical/ethnic/racial characteristics they possess.
The only caveat to that would be their behavior as a homosexual. Everything else being equal, if the person is in a committed relationship and not sleeping around and practicing other behaviors indicative of low morals, then fine.
Take the homosexuality out of it. Consider Clinton. No matter what he stood for, I wouldn't vote for him because of the long-standing accusations of cheating on his wife...and then came the Lewinski episode. The behavior indicated low moral character, and that's important, because sometimes you just have to trust the President. I could never trust Clinton because he was a proven liar and philanderer.

At this point I'd vote for Beelzebub himself and we'd probably get a lot more fairness and honesty, to say nothing of compassion and integrity.
All bitterness aside, I don't care nor have I ever cared what a president did do or doesn't do or who he does in his private life. The worst presidents are always smug, self-righteous, uptight, soulless eunuch hypocrites like Nixon, Reagan, and Bush. And, no doubt, Gore would have fit into this category, which is exactly why I voted for Nader. I'll take a flaming queen over a flame-throwing bastard any day.
So, yes, it's not even really "just another facet" to me. It's a non-issue. And, in case you're wondering, I'm straight.

It depends on the persons stance on the issues but i probably would vote for a lesbian before a gay guy because i would like to have a woman president it would be great. People could make her mad at the wrong time and she would blow them off teh map and not think twice about it. But thats with any woman so i would like to see a woman but a gay guy pretty much would not have a chance with it becaus epeople reliance on the bible and the thought of homosexuality as a sin so it is not accepted by chuch goers of many religions. I just think one day maybe in about 100 years but not now will a gay man be able to get it or get close to that position unless they lie that they are str8.
Sorry about the harshness but its probably going to be about right in todays world...
Nice question it really made me think.

Yes, if he or she were the best candidate, and I'm straight. Sexual orientation has absolutely no bearing on suitability for office. Neither does race, gender, religion, or any other superficial factor.

If the candidate is well qualified in all relevant respects, then absolutely. I vote to elect people on the basis of how well they will lead their constituents and take care of the public interest, not on what they do in the bedroom, which is none of my business anyway.

i dont think it would matter. being gay is just like having blue eyes. u cant change it, your born like that. but yeah i would vote for an openly gay candidate if i felt that they were going to do a better job than the other ones. i wont automatically rule him out because he likes guys. that's dumb.

i have self belief the american human beings would have cared a lot less that Clinton boinked Lewinsky or that JFK boinked Marilyn Monroe. I do imagine that in the time of our society, it will be puzzling for an brazenly gay human being to be elected to any severe political workplace besides the undeniable fact that. in my opinion, i might want to care a lot less, as long as their platform isn't depending in gay marriage, gay rights, and replacing our nationwide flag to a rainbow. the position do they stand on health care, immigration reform, campaign election reform, nationwide protection, position of foundation safe practices etc..

Certainly, as long as I agreed with their positions. Their sexual orientation, by itself, makes no difference to me.
