The flu can cause mild to severe illness and at times can lead to death. Although most healthy people recover from the flu without complications, some people, such as older people, young children, and people with certain health conditions, are at high risk for serious complications from the flu.
Be Aware of Common Flu Symptoms
Influenza usually starts suddenly and may include the following symptoms:
Fever (usually high)
Headache
Tiredness (can be extreme)
Cough
Sore throat
Runny or stuffy nose
Body aches
Diarrhea and vomiting (more common among children than adults)
Having these symptoms does not always mean that you have the flu. Many different illnesses, including the common cold, can have similar symptoms.
Habits for Good Health
These steps may help prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses such as the flu:
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze—throw the tissue away after you use it.
Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. If you are not near water, use an alcohol-based hand cleaner.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.
If you get the flu, stay home from work, school, and social gatherings. In this way you will help prevent others from catching your illness.
Try not to touch your eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs often spread this way.

It depends on the type of Influenza.
Influenza B causes seasonal flu, which many people get vaccinated for and lasts around two weeks.
Influenza C is a weaker flu that acts more like a bad cold virus. That also lasts for around two weeks.
nfluenza A, which is the kind that causes pandemic influenza like Bird Flu, causes the worst symptoms and for a longer period of time because it's harder for the human body to fight off. I don't know how long it takes to get over this one, but you're lucky if you live through it. I want to say that symptoms can last for around a month. If you want to know more about this kind of flu do some research on the flu pandemic of the early 1900s in the United States.

CURE FOR ALL TYPES OF FLU
The flu virus has a weak spot that I discovered twenty years ago. During the first
ten minutes after it invades your body it is multiplying by the millions on the surface
of your throat. If left undisturbed it will cross into your bloodstream and make you ill.
The extermination of the flu virus is cheap and simple. During the first ten minutes
of a sore throat you must gargle with hydrogen peroxide. Keep a small bottle of it at
work, in your car, and of course in your home.
To overcome the bad taste it leaves in your mouth use a good tasting mouthwash to
rinse your mouth after you gargle.
The virus will repeat the attack as long as you are in the contaminated environment.
When the sore throat comes back simply gargle again.
A few flu virus will make it into your body. They will be killed by your immune
system and help that system respond to future infections.

The "live" influenze virus stays active in your system (that you can pass on to others) around 72 hours. Your body builds up antibodies from that live virus (not the flu shot) forever. The "dead" virius (you get in a shot) gives you around 5 years protection.
