I think Hope Larson is a pretty good female comic book artist. You should check her out. Also Clio Chiang. These two have been featured in the "Flight" graphic novels which are very popular. Check this site for more info.

I'm sure there are plenty of great comic book artists. All the classic comic books are old, and women didn't used to be comic book artists But society is still in the beginning stages of eqality between men and women...I mean it wasn't THAT long ago that women were stuck in the kitchen! Give them a few more years and I'm sure you'll see more and more.

Women in Comic Book History from about.com
Carly Berwick muses on the history of women as comic book artists, in an article in ARTnews Online. Taking off on Linda Nochlin's 1971 essay on "Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?", Berwick talks of both the barriers for women such as a "helpmate" taking care of the household tasks, and the lack of respect for the kinds of topics that women artists have tended to focus on.

"Women comic artists may not have contributed as much as men in the art's first century, but their continued omission today looks to some critics like a bias against supposedly 'feminine' subject matter and wavering, equivocal lines."

OMG, why ought to any people not imagine of Stan Lee first? He has redefined the marketplace that he helped start up. I heavily doubt the different individual may have an same impact on the marketplace and the international for that remember as Stan the guy. His artwork is large, not for the classy attractiveness or the different factors, yet because he used it as a acceptable expression of who we were on the time. His comics were time-honored not as a results of "eye sweet" yet for his or her content textile and relevance, which looks lacking in distinct image novels in recent times.
