Well, not anymore. But they were most definitely here before anyone else. Then the white settlers corrupted them with alcohol, gave them diseases and took all of their land away.

The land is sacred to Native Americans. Whatever befalls the Earth also befalls the sons of man. Greed will take it's toll. One day it will be so polluted that it will be the end of living and the beginning of survival. Here is what Chief Sealth in 1855 when they were offered a proposal to buy the land, "How can you buy or sell the sky - the warmth of the land? This idea is strange to us. We do not own the freshness of the air or the sparkle of the water. How can you buy them from us? Every part of the Earth is sacred to my people. Every shining needle, every sandy shore, every mist in the dark woods, every clearing in the forest, and every humming insect is holy in the memory and experience of my people. We know the white man does not understand our ways. One portion of the land is the same to him as the next, for he is a stranger who comes in the night and takes from the land whatever he needs. The Earth is not his brother, but his enemy, and when he has conquered it, he moves on. He leaves his fathers' graves and his childrens' birthright is forgotten. The sight of your cities pains the eyes of the redman. But perhaps it is because the redman is a savage and does not understand".
So, we all share the same breath - the beasts, the trees, and man. But in todays' world the words, "No trespassing". rule where you can go. So, if it belongs to anybody, it belongs to the white man (let them think that). He conquered it. He thinks also that he owns a God. But our God is the same God. The Earth is precious to him. To harm the Earth is to heap contempt on it's Creator. And that's all he's been doing since arrival.

Yes that is true....If you look back in history you will find that it was Europeans who came after Native American peoples....of course if you look at it in a broader sense we all came originally from Africa (they think around there anyway is where humans first appeared) and then migrated all over the world to every continent.....So really Native americans got here first back when they were Cro-magnon man and Europeans didnt immigrate to North America until after civilisation as we know it had been formed. In Canada the Native Americans are Known as First Nations because of it......check this out for more info

They are called native Americans because they were the native residents. The white people came here, claimed America for themselves, and drove the native Americans pretty much to extinction. Black people were brought here by the white people because they were too lazy to work the land that they stole from the native Americans.

There's no such thing as a "native indian". The people called native americans actually migrated here thousands of years ago.
Some of the posters below argue that since they were here first, the continent belongs to them.
Interesting theory. Using that logic, the moon belongs to the United States.

Indians were combating over u.s. way before Whites got here. The Aztecs wiped out or enslaved smaller tribes, raping them, killing them, clone of previous whitey. For sport, gold, in spite of. White guy does an similar ingredient. yet for any a lot less noble of a reason? Riches, sport, land, clone of what the Indians were killing and raping one yet another for before whites got here. Many tribes killed and conquered to get the position they're today. Whites did an similar ingredient, and properly, right here they're. Land can't belong to at least one human beings continually. in the time of historic previous, human beings have conquered one yet another (which incorporates Indians), and the winner receives the land. the completed, WE were right here FIRST, ingredient doesn't artwork. in reality, if the East Coast Indians weren't combating among themselves, they could were waiting to unite and defeat "whitey". yet you ignore that Indians offered the white mans technologies to kill different neighboring Indian tribes. Indians took area contained in the large marketplace killing of animals with the intention to pay for technologies to conquer their tribal enemies. Yeah, it is unhappy, the whites must have under no circumstances finished what they did, yet Indians weren't all that innocuous both. There are good and undesirable human beings on each and each and every aspect, and the undesirable Indians and the undesirable Whites are what led to the downfall of the community human beings.

Yes, it did once belong to the Native American Indians. That's why they're called "native;" they were here first! The rest of us are all descended from immigrants, slaves, people escaping religious and governmental oppression, and etc......

No, we sucessfully killed most of them and took their land in the late 1800's. Their food supply was destroyed when the White man killed all of the roaming buffalo in the Great Plains and most of them starved to death. This land belongs to the federal and state governments and individual private land owners.

The Indians are believed to have come from what is now Eastern Russia to North America. However, they failed to conquer, signed no documents, therefore did not "own" America. It was up for grabs, England, France, & Spain were the first owners.
