September is the base comparator, so let that be x. 12 gals more in Oct than in Sept means Oct = x + 12. Twice as much in Nov as in Sep means Nov = 2x. Therefore all three months are Sep, Oct, Nov or x + (x+12) + 2x and this we are told is 132 gals.
x + (x+12) + 2x = 132

Oct = Sept + 12
Nov = Sept x 2

132 = Sept + Oct + Nov
132 = Sept + (Sept +12) + (Sept x 2)
132 = 12 + (4 x Sept)
132 - 12 = 4 x Sepr
120/4 = Sept
30 = Sept

Therefore:
Sept used 30 gallons
Oct used 42 gallons
Nov used 60 gallons

Let X represent the # of gallons of fuel used in September.
X+(X+12)+2X=132

x = gallons used in September
x + x + 12 + 2x = 132
4x + 12 = 132
solve for x

Let X= September's usage.
October's usage = X+12
November's usage = 2X
therefore X+(X+12)+2X = 132
4X=120 ( or 132 - 12)
X = 30
Sept. = 30
Oct = 42
Nov. = 60
30+42+60 = 132

let x gallons used in september then in in october x+12
in november 2x
x+(x+12)+2x=132
4x+12=132
4x=132-12
4x=120
x=120/4=30
in sept= 30 gallons
in octo= 30+12= 42 gallons
in november= 2*30=60gallons

Let x = the amount of fuel used in September
Let y = the amount of oil used in October
Let z = the amount of oil used in November

y=x+12
z=2x
x+y+z = 132

Plug in the values of y and z into the last equation to find x. Then use the x you found to find y and z.

s= Amount of oil in Sept.
Sept+ October + Nov = 132 gal

(12+S)+(s)+(2S)=132 so

3s+ (12+s) =132

when you figure out S, plug it back into the equation.

I think it works...
