a point of view, an opinion or a sick way of thinking? i've been wondering , the fact is that there is freedom of speech, but isn't racism freedom of speech as long you don't hurt people with it? here (in Belgium) if you reveal that your a racist and you speak as a racist you can be punished by the government, because the things a racist say are hurting to other people but aren't the things that religious groups or just other groups say hurting either? shouldn't that be seen as racism as well? isn't racism then just a way of speech, a way of thinking? just freedom of speech
AND I ONLY TALK ABOUT THEIR THINKING, NOT THEIR ACTS, so please don't react that racist are killers and so on, I mean the racist who just express their feelings and such things.....

I agree that a person should be free to think and say what they feel to be right as long as they aren't enforcing their beliefs with force. If someone can't express themselves, or what they feel to be true, then why have freedom of speech at all? Racism is rampant where I live, and you always hear people voicing their opinions. Drive down the wrong street here and you might not be driving back out. It's such a touchy subject though with the politically correct crap going on now that most people are afraid to say anything racial for fear of repercussions. And that's just sad that now you have to be careful not only of what you do, but of only what you say now too.

Personally, I think the sooner we accept racism instead of fighting it as a part of being human beings, the better off we'll be. Every race and culture has their own stereotype.

For example, I'm chinese and I can't drive (not sure how Chinese Belgians drive there, but here in the North American continent, we're horrid drivers) because we all see in widescreen. See, you had a bit of a chuckle there; we have squinty eyes, therefore, widescreen. What's wrong with a little racist joke that gets people laughing and accepting a stereotype? I can understand that some can be cruel (like the jewish and pizza joke) and there's bound to be limits. But as soon as we embrace it in this sense, the better off we'll be.

Racism definately is covered under freedom of speech. However, the power and right to do something doesn't mean we should. That is actually one debate that was recently in the U.S. congress in regards to flag burning.

In Belgium, if you go to jail for hurting someone's feelings, does that include saying someone is fat or stupid or ugly or too short or too thin? Can you go to jail for breaking up with someone because you don't like them anymore?

Is it only victims of racism whose feelings get hurt? That's an incredibly dumb law to put people in jail for what they say or think.

None of the above ..racism ..I believe is based on fear and lack of information ...speaking out against anyone for any reason (race colour or creed )..can be seen to incite negative actions ..and allow people to feel justified in doing them ,,your entitled to your feelings ..your entitled to express them but your feelings don't automatically give you rights

racism is a way for people to judge others just because they're too lazy to get to know someone. it's a method used by selfish, arrogant jerks.

Some might say that it is due to imperfect information, and that they are forced to make assumptions about people. But in general, beyond that, it is not a good thing.
