See if there are any community classes in the area. This is the best way for a hearing person to learn ASL if they are not close to people in the Deaf Community. If there is a local Deaf Community, see if they have any events going on. There is one in my city and once per month they have a silent dinner at one of the malls. They also have Deaf coffee chats, church services, interpreted movie nights, etc. There is also a school for the Deaf in my area and they put on a lot of festivals, plays, etc. for the community. I would suggest your fiance attend as many of these types of events as possible to learn ASL in its naturally used environment. You could also buy the ASL books and corresponding videos for exercises, pictures, cultural information, etc. We used them in the sign classes I took.

The community college in my area has sign language courses and clubs. The perform a la Napoleon Dynamite for the community each semester. Performing the actions is probably the easiest way to learn them. Maybe start by translating some phrases from your husband's favorite movies/TV shows.

Join a class together, it will be so fun!! Unfortunetly there isnt many classes available in every town or school so if thats the case in ur situation go to the local library and borrow some books and ASL learning tapes! What I love watching are sign language performances of popular songs, it is so fun to watch and a great way to learn signs! -- Whatever it is as long as you are there for company, support and help im sure he will enjoy it and be motivated!

Use the universal sign language that everybody understand.
First make an "O" with your left fingers
Then us your right index finger to slide in and out the "O" twice.
Universal accepted and understooded sign, money back guaranteed.
Just mocking, no bad feelings.

Try giving him a book.
When I wanted to learn a little bit, it really helped to see it in a book, instead of having someone try to teach me.
Also, it's easier to practice with a book.
Instead of having to ask a million times how to say something, he can just look it up.
