How old should a kid be to play? What kind of educational benefits are there? Also, can you recommend a model...the best game cartridges ? (I need to buy a quick gift, am not a user of video games so the trip to the store for the try-it-and-buy-it was useless for me since I did not even know how to turn the thing on) Thanks

Most of the games are rated E, so EVERYONE can play it! There aren't many educational benefits. I would reccomend the GBA SP. The SP can play Game Boy, GB color, and GB advance cartridges. The micro only plays GB advance cartridges and lacks the standard link port (It's been replaced by a multifunction jack that doesn't work with most things). Some of the best cartridges? Mario Kart Super Circuit and WarioWare are good, but they don't sell them anymore (Except at gamestop and EB). If you need a new game instead, try WarioWare Twisted.

Hey, if you really want good gift that essentially has a GB micro inside, try a Nintendo DS! It plays GBA games and new Nintendo DS games, like the retro feel of NEW Super Mario Bros. and the very popular Nintendogs! It features 2 screens (One of them is the awesome TOUCHSCREEN), a microphone, and wireless capabilities.

A kid should be 8+ to play a gameboy(even though it says 10+). I'd recommend Pokemon games (my favorite). Pokemon games are somewhat educational. Pokemon games teach kids responsibility because you have to earn badges. U can't just walk into a gym and take a badge. Gyms test the strength of your Pokemon because u have 2 battle the gym leader. If u win, a badge 4 u! If not, train your Pokemon!

Game boys are great gifts. make sure to get a game boy advanced, or Game boy advanced SP. the other game boys arent as good, and they dont have as many games. the game boy DS is a bit complecated, so if u buy it, u should buy it for ages 9 and up. there are games for younger kids and older kids, so ages really dont matter. I reccomend the GAME BOY ADVANCE SP. I also reccomend any KIRBY games. the SP has a lighted screen so u can play a night and stuff. its also not to expensive. the DS is way more expensive.

Hope i HELPED!!!!
