The primary reason is because of some sense of dissatisfaction with the way things are in the present.
Buddha said that the fundamental cause of human suffering is the belief that "now," the present moment, is not good enough, and that we must seek something "better."
We also desire change to pursue our dreams. It is OK to seek our best selves, so long as the desire doesn't become painful and prohibit us from enjoying the present moment.
The humanist Carl Rogers might say that we seek to move our real self closer to our ideal self.

Mostly every living creature desires change in their lives. Change takes the monotony away from our lives. Changes can be both a good thing or a bad thing. It all depends on how each individual looks at changes. Changes can inspire us, make us feel happier or it can depress us and make us feel sad. We were not made to be robots. We were made to be living and breathing beings on this earth to enjoy all of life's splendors.
What about you? Why do you desire change?
