Gasoline was 40 cents a gallon in Los Angeles and there were gas stations on every corner. In 1973 we had the OPEC oil embargo and prices of everything went up and never came down. The real estate spike began in 1975. During Vietnam war, groceries were expensive until people began boycotting stores and prices came down again.Prices vary in different regions. In 1976 I made $7 an hour and that was good then. I cannot get much more than that today and the cost of living is 1000% higher. $6000 a year income was very low even in the 70s. I made $200 a week in 1971 and that was including health insurance of course. Thats all I can specifically remember. The difference between then and now is that people did not spend money on electronics and they did not have credit cards.

28 cents/gallon. Those were the days! Even with the energy crisis in 1973 gas was still much less expensive than nowadays.

I was born in 1976, and my parents wrote all that stuff down in my baby book---they were freaks like that---according to what they had wrote down, gas prices were around $0.85 per gallon.

Wouldn't that be nice if it was that way still today?
