Hah! Maybe he should have been cast for the American movie instead of Paul McGann. That would have been great!

That's how I found this page, because I always thought he ( or Simon Callow) would have been perfect for the role. But only if he played him with the same personality (and similar dress ) as Willy Wonka.

Think about it, the Doctor has to be a mysterious, slightly scary, slightly mad, humorous, eccentric, flamboyant, genius with a strong air of authority, a fair sense of justice, an heroic nature and preferably with big hair.

This is pretty much Gene's version of Willy Wonka down to a tee.

I think he would be good but he is too much like the previous Doctor's with the curly hair and frenetic personality.

I especially like the most recent Doctor #9 - Christopher Eccleston - because he brought a different attitude to it with his leather jacket.. shaved head and bravado.

I would like to see someone like Donald Sutherland or even maybe someone like Morgan Freeman. I think they would bring a certain level of class to the role that people come to expect from Doctor Who.

That's a good point. I think he would.
(Of course, anyone would make a better doctor than Collin Baker's portrayal).

I can see him as a mixture of McGann and Tom Baker, perhaps a bit more of Tom Baker.

He would have been the best Dr. Who, even better than the original.

We would have to rope in the yelling and screaming portion of his acting persona.

If he was more like he was in "Little Prince", it would have worked out.
