Who was a better player?

As a coach I'd rather have Pele... as a fan Garrincha.

As a player Garrincha was uncoachable. All you could do is put him on the field and let him play his game. There is a story of him dribbling pass all the defenders and the goalie only to stand and wait in front of the goal for one more defender to come back so he could dribble around one more opponent before scoring.

He was a player that would thrill the fans, but cause a lot of hairloss in his coaches.

From the what I've read, he may have been more talented than Pele, but Pele could be instructed as to how you wanted him to play.

Pele is a more complete player, Garrincha more talented. Garrimcha with the ball at his feet was as good as or maybe better than mardonna in his prime, but he only played in 2WCs. Wining one and the other he had to carry the team on his own. A lttle known fact that when pele and garrincha played together braizl never lost a game.

I don't really think one can compare Pele and Garrianca. They both have contributed to Brasilian football and both were fantastic in their respective positions. Garriancha's contribution in1958 and 1962 world cups especially in 1962 was tremendous for which all Brasilian fans should remain indebted to him and Garriacnha had to bear with physical disability throughout his life. On the other hand, Pele is Pele. His sublime dribbling skills and passes will be cherished by every soccer fans even though he/she may not support Brasil. Without Pele, football would have lost its meaning. No wonder he is known as the King of Football. In the end, all I can say is : Both Garrincha and Pele are the Best. They started the Golden Era for Brasilian football which will go on as long as the world will last.

Excellent question. Pele because of what he accomplished but in his prime Garrincha was just as good. Problem was Grarincha was one messed up individual (think modern day Gascoigne without the trophies).
