If you're smart you walk away but that takes being a man and having courage. The only time you should hit anyway really is in self-defense, if you have half a brain.

I mean, sure the natural reaction is to clock someone but it depends on the situation. If some 6-foot 5 300-lb. NFL lineman is mouting off about my mom, I would have to be a complete moron to get in a fight with him.

Fight back using your wit and fire insults in return.

I would get in their face & either make them cry, leave, or start swinging fists :0) I don't let n e 1 talk disrespectfully to my mom :0) She was there 4 U n the beginning, thru the years (good & bad), & she'll b there until the VERY END! The least you can do is the same 4 her. A mother will always b there when every1 else turns their backs! She deserves respect & love just like every1 else!! Trash talking has always been a part of pro sports. If you know you can put an opposing player off his game by doing so, it will continue to happen.

If those are the conditions where this happens, retaliate in kind, and keep a half smile on your face. Then do your best to make the offending player look like a fool on the field.

It's interesting to see how many people would resort to violence. I have been in the situation where people have said things about my parents and family... although our animal instincts would be to beat the crap out of them our better judgment should kick in. The best thing to do would be walk away, ignore them, turn the other cheek... or at worst, use your wit to insult them right back and make them feel stupid for saying idiotic things. Not resorting to violence is what separates us from the beasts out there. It's what our faith should teach us and it is what should make our mother's proud.
