Good luck to the people trying to make them illegal.
As I anticipated, a bunch of people saying it's the owners fault. And I suppose none of you have ever heard the story....
" I don't know what happened. The dog has always been so
sweet. Its never turned on anyone before."
There's been two of those in the last week in my community of about 50000 people.

Unfortunately, there is such a thing as bad breeds. Bad in the sense that they aren't good for family pets. Pitt Bulls were originally bred bull baiting and dog fighting - never for pets. They have only been bred for family pets in the past 100 or so years. That may sound like a long time, but it isn't compared with some breeds who are 1000 years old.
Combine this with the fact that many breeders are not responsible breed only for size or color instead of temperment. (That happens with all breeds)
When you have a dog that has been bred for centuries to be a lean, biting machine it is dangerous. Bad breeding, bad training, and bad luck combine for horrible accidents. Its not the individual dogs fault - often its not the owners fault.
The problem has been made worse by people who want a scary, intimidating dog and encourage the continued breeding of such.
Now, I have met many sweet, even tempered pit bulls. However, because of the nature and history of the breed, I do think there should be some controls on breeding and owning. I don't think making them illegal is the answer.

I think it's a bunch of crap, just like kid's, your dog is what you make of it not all pitt bull's are mean. I think the owner's should be held more accountable to how mean there dog is. A dog just like a child learn's behavior or is taught behavior not born vicious. Mabe if the owner's were held responsible or whoever is teasing the dog was held for partial blame, there would be less attack's..
I have friend's with pitt bull's and they are nice sweet and mostly shy to stranger's, so I think most pitt bull's are trained mean or aggrivated and teased so bad that yes they'll bite, but so will any dog that's teased or tormented. So I think this Law is a crock of crap.

Laws banning certain animals are done for the good of the community. Some areas are known to excluively use pitt bulls for dog fighting. When a community has a problem with dogs, cocks, or any other animals beign raised to fight to the death, laws are put in place to protect that community.
Laws are not bad, dogs are only bad because humans have made them that way.
That being said, I have a pitt bull and would move before I gave him up, plus my kids would kill me if they came home from school and their dog was gone.

I agree and disagree. I have a German shepherd (which is sweet as can be) and they are getting almost as much bad coverage. I disagree because I know it is in the way they are raised. Some people raise them well...others raise them to be aggressive. It doesn't take much to make a pit bull aggressive.
I live in Houston and in the last few months there have been MANY pit bull attacks on the news. Two even brought down someones horse! The other day, a little boy had his arm broken in an attack. They get loose, and they revert back to their old animalistic (not domesticated) ways. They are very strong dogs that have been bred to attack. Unless that is controlled very well (which is so commonly not) they are dangerous dogs.

It's not right to "ban" any breed of dog just because some moronic idiot decided to abuse their Pitt Bull and their actions end up giving the entire breed an unfair and wrong bad rap. My son has two and they are both loving, gentle, good dogs. When people are caught abusing their animals, they should be jailed & fined for the abuse.

I think that any owner who trains their dog to be a fighter is bound to get into trouble. Pitt Bulls are natural fighters and easy to train, bad combination in my book. I think the answer is to require the owner to have a lisence to own such an animal, and that lisence would be a binding agreement to be fully responsible for any action done by the animal.

Pitt Bulls shouldn't be illegal. They should just put the owners in jail if they hurt anyone.

lt's the people like Steve up there that are so narrow minded to think all Pit Bulls are dangerous. It's some owners that make them dangerous, same with Rottweilers. I'm tired of these idiots that want extreme blanket solutions to problems. It's the same people that want to outlaw guns because some people use them for crime. Ridiculous extreme left bullsh*t.

I think that's so mean! Not all Pitt Bulls are viscous. I've always wanted one. I don't think they should make them illegal anywhere.
