they actually make tint for windows now that sells at most home improvement stores. Also can use tinfoil but remember to put shiny side out to help in reflecting the heat as well. If it is just light you are worried about then tint would work well as well as black out curtains or a really dark color curtain to reduce light. Also some good shades will help but would recommended something besides the standard cheapos as these dont fit well enough together to block light well.

I live in Alaska and in the summer as you probably know it stays light almost 24 7 so we put foil on our windows I know it sounds so bad but it works great pitch black in our room.

Go to your hardware and buy some plastic window film. It won't be necessary to "black them out".
Where you been?
If you decide to use drapes, bear in mind that excessive sun will eventually deteriorate the fabric. Do both, if you like, and prevent that.
This will save your carpet also. The "heat" of sun destroys color.

Aluminum foil does the best job, plus keeps the extra heat out of the room.

Try window panels or blinds (or both) that are specially made to darken a room. They come in various designs and colors, just make sure you measure your windows before you buy them to be sure you get the right size.

I refuse to use tinfoil that just looks odd. So I use cardboard. I have painted the side that faces out so it looks kinda like a room

Check www.froogle.com under "room darkening shades", then sort by price, low to high. The link below *should* do that, but you never know -- sleep tight!
