Why is anyone addicted to anything? Its a mental thing...people just need something to do with thier minds so they go on myspace.

One of the main reasons for a social networking site to be popular is the amount of "friends circles" you can find on it. e.g. classmates, seniors, juniors etc. This provides a good way to keep in touch with a potentially ALL the people you've met in you study years!
For example, i have my accounts at Hi5 and orkut .. but most of my friends ended up having accounts in orkut and so I've abandoned Hi5, inspite of it being technologically superior.
MySpace was able to capture a key proportion of the American high-school crowd pretty early on, and in a domino effect pretty much balloons to include a huge number of subscribers.

i don't know! i have one, and i keep trying to not check it all the time and i kept deleating old ones because i was so obsessed! lol i'm not really anymore. but when school starts again, i'm going to deleate my current one. i do better with schoolwork when im not always on the computer :)

Easier to avoid friends and all social contact when you only have to comment on their page occasionally.
