For example: Being bipolar, depressed, or ADD. These are things people can not help, and are controlled by chemicals in the brain. What do you think. What makes a human being attracted to another, and why? What parts of the brain control these feelings.

I'm bisexual by the way. I have been ever since I could remember. It's not just a choice I made in college for fun, or to be cool. I just would like to understand how the human mind works when it comes to sexuality.

Well, as Woody Allen says the bisexuals are lucky because they have twice the chance for a date on Saturday night.

It can be a hormonal imbalance. Studies have shown that if a female rat is given too much testosterone, she will start humping another female rat during mating season. Similarly, male rats will go after male rats if given too much estrogen. It is difficult to do tests like these in human beings because it is unethical and because there are also cultural influences that can't be controlled.
One study did a test with twins. They took two fraternal twins separated at birth and looked at the likelihood that if one was homosexual, the other would be homosexual. They then took two identical twins separated at birth and looked at the correlation of sexual preference. A significant amount of predictability was found in the identical twins group rather than the fraternal twins group, which suggests DNA has something to do with it.
It is also possible that homosexuality is a mental disorder because it correlates strongly with negative behaviors like alcoholism and depression. But psychologists have generally found that homosexuality is not an abnormal psychology and no longer believe it is a mental disease.

One theory I read about (Sorry can't rember where) thinks they may have found a possible reason. They were researching a small cluster of neurons in the back of the brain that only men were known to have. They noticed most of the men have a normal sized cluster of neurons, while a few had smaller or no cluster at all. They then interview all the small or no cluster men. It turned out that nearly all were homosexual or bisexual. They then removed the same cluster of neuron from male monkeys. What they found was the monkeys no longer had any desire for females but still had a desire for sex. As for Women, maybe (and this is just my guess) they have this small cluster of neurons that were thought to be only in males.

I don't know what causes people to be homosexual. Presumably, a person wouldn't just up and choose a lifestyle which attracts so much negative attention out of sheer cantankerousness, and the experience of most if not all homosexuals seems to be that they resist for a long time and feel ashamed and confused. It certainly seems something other than whim is at work.
Even if homosexuals have a choice, I don't think they should be stigmatized. It's a free country. Nor should they be looking for a medical explanation just to feel OK about themselves.

Not neccasarily a MENTAL disorder but I've always said it's genetic in some way, because homosexuals say they've always known, born that way etc. In every other species on earth reproduction and pairing are male /female. There has to be some genetic difference to make you attracted to the same sex. It's probably not received as a popular therory, because it would imply if the gene could be isolated it could be treated and fixed( if you wanted it fixed), but the movement now is just to accept it(and for society to accept it.) Just my opinion.

there have been a few studies done to determine if homosexuality is a choice or if it is a medical condition. They found many of the subjects to have enlarged hypothalomus glands. They concluded that they did not have a large enough sample size to come to any conclusions and some of the patients had died of AIDS which could of caused the inlarged gland.

People have no decision in what gender they are attracted to, it is not a mental disease, nor is it an imbalance. Those are words bigots use to attack people whom they fear, or the fear they see in themselves as they have tose feelings.
Homosexuality isn't a modern "problem", there have been homosexuals for as long as there has been man. If anybody suggests that you are "sick" or "mentally imbalanced" or have a "condition" because of your bisexuality, tell them immediately to their face that they are a bigot.
BTW I am strait, and ashamed of all the strait people out there who spread their bigotry, and evem more disturbed by people who drag their religion into it to justify their vile and disgusting bigotry towards homosexuals.

homosexuality is thought to be caused by lower levels of certain hormones during pregnancy, or lesser testosterone at certain crucial times in a boy's life. less research is done to why women are lesbians, but what is known is that most heterosexual men and women tend to get aroused by watching 2 women kissing. Male homosexuality tends to be a one-way street, when tested on this males are either heterosexual or homosexual at a given time. the orientation may change over time.

No I don't. I think the conservatives who think being gay is a sin, have a chemical imbalance in their brain.

It's a mental problem if your just thinking you want to get into his pants or you want to get into her pants. If your just attracted to the sex then it's a mental disorder, nympho.
