is this something I could do myself. i've changed starters ,alternators, water pumps etc. etc.but never done any wheel or chassis work!

get the book on it and check it out. some axles have outer bearings (close to the wheel) and other have them in towards the differential, or some have both...get the book on it..i personally don't feel that changing and packing the bearings yourself would be too difficult, as you seem to be mechanically inclined.

i think you can get the rotter with the bearings installed already
