David Gilmoor is an amazing guitarist and i think is underated ( and I seriously consider him one of the best as in right up there, the likes of Jimmy Page who is great but if you look at material to Gilmoor there is no comparison. Clapton, is not in Gilmoors league. Alot of Claptons material is based on Blues riffs that have already been done. This guy (Gilmoor) bends tones, not semi tones similar to Jeff Beck. Just listen and watch David Gilmoor play comfortably numb. Its a complete work of amazing guitar playing and to create that solo is awesome. Whats your favorite guitar solo and Why??

Good question. I'm in total agreement about Gilmour. You've GOTTA check out the "Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii" video. Gilmour (and the rest of the band) will BLOW YOUR MIND.

But, to your question, check out another underrated English guitarist, Mick Ronson, on "Moonage Daydream" off Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust." Never get tired of hearing that riff.

Enjoy...

I don't have a favorite guitar solo, but I agree about David Gilmour. The lead-in to Wish You Were Here, while not impressive from a level of difficulty standpoint, is very well done -melancholy and mournful and sad, without being sappy or saccharine. Gilmour's writing is also first-rate, although he is overshadowed in that category by his former band-mate, Roger Waters, who is a fabulously talented, if a bit insane, songwriter.

La Villa Strangiatto, By Rush, has one of my favorite leads in it. I really, really, like that one! David Gillmore is very good, also, They just released 'Pulse' on d.v.d., this is an excelent live show, and is very well done. lots of good close up shots, and when the three girls sing the vocals on 'great gig in the sky' , I get goosesbumps!. Check that one out if you haven't seen it. Very good! Most people dont realize it, but a lot of Pink Floyds music is blues based also, It is just done in a unique and imaginative way! Dave knows how to use a stratocaster! Also 'Sails of Sharon" by the Scorpions (Uli Roth) has kick *** guitar work in it! Original for it's time!

Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) by Jimi Hendrix, from the first note to the last; this song just rocks.

But the most underated guitar player is Boz Scaggs, he may not be the best, but he is damn good, and a lot of people don't know it.

I like the solo in Tull's Aqualung. Nothing fancy or flashy, just great melodic playing. The ultimate guitar solo in my opinion. Not sure who the guy is, but it's great playing!

The best guitarrist player all over the world is not a rock, pop, jazz star.It is Paco de Lucia from Spain. He has a gift to play with the heart in his fingers.
