I share a back yard fence with my neighbor. He wants me to pay for half of replacement, even though I have the back side face of the fence. Replacement is due to age, not damage by either party.

The owner is responsible for the fence. So if it is on his property he is responsible for it. If it is on your property you are responsible for it. Because the back of the fence is on your side I bet it is his fence. Many times because both want the fence neighbors will share the cost of the fence repairs, replacement on installation. So if the fence benefits you and you don't want it removed it would be a good neighbor thing to help. If you can not afford to help pay for the fence maybe offer to help with the work of replacing it instead or give what you can. He can't make you pay half for his fence but it would be nice as you get benefit of it's existence.

There is no requirement that you share the expense, but it is a customary thing to do. My guess is that the neighbor who put it in originally (with the front facing his/her yard) paid for it themselves, thus it was a no brainer. A fenced yard is an asset to a house, but usually not a requirement. If you enjoy the fence being there, like if you need to keep a dog, you should be willing to pay for half and can reasonably discuss with your neighbor which side the fence faces ... perhaps less than half if it faces his yard.

If youre like my friends burn it down, LOL not even joking. But legally you shouldnt pay for the replacement if the following conditions are meant:

It is just a paint replacement

If you both agreed on replacing the fence then you need to split 50/50

you at the prompt are not required to assist pay for the fence. also, the fence gained't be quite owned by both one among you. it is owned by the subsequent door neighbor. regularly, the fence is had to be set 6 inches contained in the owner's sources line. some aspects require that the "surprisingly" area of the fence be became out in the route of the different friends.

Can you really share a fence? It has to be on one or the other's property I would think. Who paid for the original?

Whose property is the fence on. That is the responsible party. If it's on neighbors property and he want to replace it, it's his responsiblity.
