Yes why not? Tell him you had a hard night pre-reading.

NO, if it is a small class, the professor will most likely know that you have been asleep. It would be very rude to ask them to then fill you in on what you missed. Instead, ask a classmate to look at their notes or tell you what was said.

Professors don't like to babysit their students and hold their hands. They feel that if you want to sleep in class, it is due to a lack of interest and that it will only hurt you in the long run. They will not be happy to give you a summary. This also applies if you skip or miss an entire class. Do not ask them to fill you in.

If you do fall asleep, and your professor notices, stay after class and appologize. Let them know that you do care about the class and are interested in what they have to say. Let them know the circumstances of why you fell asleep. If you were up sick the night before, or were studying all night for an exam, they will be more understanding of your little snooze.

The first thing is to apologize to the teacher and tell them why you fell asleep - don't make up something, be honest. The only time you might want to make up something would be if the teacher is someone who speaks in a monotone and is ungodly boring!!! Most teachers will try and work with you - but be prepared for a lecture on time management!! Fall asleep in my class and we leave early - quietly - and let you sleep! Either that, or I throw an eraser at you!

The professor is not dumb, he knows you were asleep so just don't say anything to him and ask someone else for a summary.

Du hast dich doch getraut, eine Frau im Restaurant anzusprechen und jetzt nach der heissen Nacht, kannst du nicht mehr die Vorlesung verfolgen und muss dabei schlafen, oder???

Or do you plan to do so????

Anyhow, take it easy and enjoy your stay in Germany! Viel Glück!!
