The first few periods can be irregular, excessively heavy or light, lasting anywhere from 3 to 15days long. They may stop and then start again too. Don't worry -- its normal. Its just your body adjusting to changing hormone levels. Some people dont get regular periods for upto the first 3 years after first starting.
If, however, you bleed more than 12days, go and see your doctor.
5days is STILL in the normal range.
The endometrium of the uterus is still not used to shedding, and your ovaries are still getting used to ovulating -- so naturally, in the natural course of your body adapting to you growing up into a woman. Once its adapted, you'll be ok.

It's very natural for your cycle to be irregular (not occurring every month or for the same amount of time every month) when a woman first starts her period. It could take up to five years for a female to become regular. The lenght of everyones period varies, actually 5 days is not that abnormal, but if you are really worried you should go to a doctor just to make sure everything is okay.

They usually last up to about five days. but since it is a new experience for you it may be a bit longer. you can keep track of your periods to know when you usually start.
The first day of your cycle is the first day of your period. Most women are 28 days. So, on day 28 you will know that tommorow is your period. so instead of it being day 29 you will count it as one if you start that day. Each month may be different but you can track them on a calander so you have an idea when to expect them. Best of luck to you.. I remember what it was like for me..

o honey it seems normal to me because i was 10 years old when i started my cycle and i bled for 2 weeks straight and it did this off an on for a long time. and then it began to regulate and later on it still returned to being irregular. so you should have nothing to worry about unless you have a blood clot, bleeding really heavy, vomit alot, or loose lots of fluids and are tired and dizzy. this is a result of hemorrhaging

mine usually lasts for 7 days every time, this is normal, you must remember too that your cycle is bound to be abnormal in the beginning, so don't worry. if it lasts more then 2 weeks however, see a doctor.
