I want to buy a DS but I'm worried that as soon as I buy it a new handheld console may be released soon and make the DS obsolete. I don't really know what new consoles and games are set to come out because I'm not really into this stuff, I just want a DS so that I can do something at break time at work. I don't want to buy a DS then find that they're gonna stop making games for it soon because of a new console. thanks.

Listen if you really want a Ds then yes, wait until December when the price will go down a bit. You can also buy it in bundles with cool accessories. The new psp will release this Fall so Nintendo will compete in the handheld war by cutting down prices on the older version of the Ds. I recommend that you get the new one since the screen is brighter and the battery life is better too. The Psp is better in my opinion but if a Ds is what you want then this is what you should do.

You are a liar. You do not own a DS. The PSP is a sub pa, block of a music player, just because your game is 3D doesn't make it good, and the DS has internet too. Or are you just saying that the DS doesn't have internet cause you are BIASED. If you feel like an idiot playing the DS, you might need to go to your doctor and ask for some hormones to make you feel better.
And to answer the original question, the DS and PSP are fairly new systems. They came out last year. Since you're only playing it between break time at work, you want a DS because it is cheap, has games you can play without sitting there for 2 minutes waiting for it to load, and has this big list of great upcoming games (see sources). The PSP is not a bad system, it will just be better for you, judging by the things that you have stated.

i would say buy a ds. first it is going to have an Internet browser coming out. also the psp movies aren't that good b/c the umd is dying. you can turn your DVDs into movies the psp can play but you have to download some 3rd party software and i don't know how complicated that is. the ds may not have as good graphics but the game play with the touch screen is awesome. oh by the way, get a ds lite. it is an infinite amount of times better than the ds. and know, there is no new handheld video game coming out as to my knowledge.
