If it's a question about trying to make a living as an actress and you could consider not acting - then don't start. If you're not sure now, wait until you've got to choose between losing your day job or going to an audition; taking a great role in a great play for no money and not being able to pay your rent. Taking a sleazy role in a sleazy film because, "at least it's a credit". These aren't wild theoretical questions; hundreds of actors ask themselves these questions everyday and the ones who aren't committed (one way or the other) eventually give up.
On the other hand, you can always start acting as a hobby. See if you enjoy it. See if it lights a fire you can't put out. Then you'll know. I don't know if you're "too old" and neither does anyone else, because that's not the point. If there's something else you can do and be reasonably happy doing it, than do that instead.
I started past 40 and I've done pretty well, a network series, TV guest stars, films, etc. It can be done, but my god I still want to quit every two months, but the fire just won't go out.

The ones that start out young are the ones who end up with a LOT of problems. 23 is a great age. You are old enough to deal with the pressures of an acting career and you have the life experinece to help you with your craft . You are young enough to still have just about your whole life ahead of you. 23 is not only young enough, Its pretty much a perfect age. Plenty of famous actresses started out doing something completely different before they began acting. Go for it!

Not at all. Take a look at al the people in Hollywood who become famous later in life. But remember this, only about 3% of the people who pursue an acting career become truly successful. Make sure you have other skills to fall back on until you can get a really good agent. Good luck to you!

Do you think only young actors get jobs in acting? If you started now and kept at it for twenty years, do you think you would be too old to act? I see TV actors and movie stars of all ages.
If you think you're too old for acting, then you'll probably come up with other excuses for everything else in your life. I'm too old, I'm too ugly, I'm too fat, I'm too short, I'm not good enough...
If you want to be an actress...then BE AN A ACTRESS! Don't second guess yourself and don't use excuses to stop being what you want, because in the end, you'll only find a life full of excuses.

I know an actress that started acting in her 60s. She gets more acting jobs than me.
23 is NOT old. Go for it. Don't concern yourself with when others started acting lessons. Everyone is different. Who knows, you may have the "it" quality, that producers want on the screen or on stage. Just do it!
Acting is about talent, not age!

Go for it sister....there is never an age limit if you're good. ALso you might just have to be open to all sorts of different types of acting...not just TV or movie...but theatre perhaps. Apply to the courses...that too will get you connected. I think a lot of folk just take off to a place like Hollywood looking for a break with no connections or experience. Good Luck!

Yes. Now, move to Florida and retire.
Seriously don't be bogged down by society's standards. People change their careers mid life all the time. The important thing is to keep your self confidence level high. If you doubt you can do it, you won't.

As a "career" choice...?
23 is not too old to do anything that life contains... 24 will be... find a passion.

you should do both. keep it real- make sure you have another job you love or like to make money, and then go for it. if it doesnt work out, oh well. but if you don't yo uwill spend your whole life thinking about, what if? and it will haunt you. Make sure that you stay logical though. One in a million, but it *could* be you! 23 is a great age to play a mom in a film. Your young yet!
Good luck.

No way Jose, you can start pursuing your dream career at any age. Practice a lot, then when you think you are good enough start attending auditions.
