First off, anyone choosing Dye over Thome because of his higher BA has little comprehension of batting stats. Anyone should know by know that numbers like OBP, SLG and OPS are far more important. So comparing them in those categories, you get this:
Dye .397 .646 1.093
Thome .414 .651 1.065
Thome also has 18 Win Shares to Dye's 16, and if you're into traditional stats, he has more runs, homers, and RBI.
No doubt about it - Thome is the best, and most valuable, player on that team. There's just no way that the case can be made for anyone else.

The best starting pitcher this year has been Jose Contreras. The best overall player has to be Jermain Dye. Hes batting .318, he has like 25 homers and sixty something rbis I believe. Not to mention some amazing plays in right field.

Jose Contreras winning his last 17 decisions is amazing! Him, Bobby Jenks, and J. Dye are the best.
