There are limitations as to how loud the volume can be for television programming. Programs equalize the sound to optimize the way that the dialogue, sound effects, and background music sound. But the adverts simply max out all the settings in order to get your attention. You'd think they'd learn that it just makes us turn it down or off.

Are you asking about the volume on the teli. Advertisements are louder than Programming?
There are many other tricks they use to reach the subconscious.
Like the boo hoo script that gets you in a somber mood, then a commercial pops up downloading all kinds of mind F*^*.

Because the tech's that master them set the test tone at the head of the tape under the color bars lower than the actual content so the guy in master control set it up to the tone at the head of the tape and when they run the spot it louder!

They do it to get your attention. What they really do is irritate the heck out of you. I used to have a TV (magnavox) that had smart sound and turned down the sound automatically when the ads came on. Then my hubby decided he had to have a big, wide screen HD and that doesn't have it. You'd think a 3000 dollar TV would have at least what a 300 dollar TV had, wouldn't you?

Most of the time it's because when the company sends in the commercial, their sound settings are different than those of the TV stations. There is no sound in the main control room that sends the signal out.

It is so aggrevating!!! I love the mute button unless it is a good commercial. Ya know it is pretty sad when commercials are better than television. I love some of the Identity Theft Commercials. The two old ladies on the couch make me laugh myself silly.

because you keep falling asleep during the horrendously boring programs and leaning on the volume control on the remote.....that wakes you up(always during the ads) and you reset the volume till you nod off again....it's a well known behavioural problem called 'this telly is shite,so I'm going to zzzzzzzz'.syndrome.

GOD, THATS ANNOYING!!!
I'm not sure but I think its got something to do with the sound frequencies (treble and bass) - in programmes and films the sound supposedly is realistic to the scene, in adverts everything is equalised, probably for more 'impact'.
Does anyone know who we can complain to?!?!?

because you have yourself chosen the program you are watching and hence are fully concentrated on it, whereas adverts are loaded on you without your permission and they want your concentration, hence they are louder than the programs.

It's to get your attention. I find it very annoying given that I've already set the volume at the level I want.
