Is it pumping fuel? Sounds nuts, but first thing to check. Low fuel pressure, a leak, clogged fuel filter. All are suspect...

First things first. Check the fuel pressure. Both Key on Engine off and cranking. If you don't have fuel pressure it doesn't matter if the injectors are pulsing. If you have good fuel pressure then check for spark and injector pulse. They usually run off the same crank signal. If you don't have fuel pressure you have to find out if the pump is running or not. If not you have an electrical problem. If the pump is running you have a plumbing problem (i.e. clog, kink, or disconnected line). You didn't say why you replaced the pump in the first place. Was it because the car would not start? It may have been mis-diagnosed to begin with.

If the engine runs and dies it could be the oil pressure switch for the fuel pump. This switch only allow the pump to run when engine is running. The engine control computer turns the pump on for a short time to start then the oil switch closes and keeps the pump running.

I assume you really mean it fires for about 3 seconds, when you say crank, it generally is talking about the starter turning the engine over for start-up.
If indeed you mean it fires for 3 seconds and dies again, it sounds like your not getting enough fuel to the engine. You may have a plugged fuel filter if you did not already change it, check your fuel line from pump to carb for crimped section, or you may have a problem with your carb (clogged nozzle opening).
