I think alot more innocent people than that have been executed. Also, execution costs more than keeping a prisoner in jail for life. And it has also been proven that the death penalty is not a deterrent for crime. We have had the death penalty since history began and there is still crime.

Well Im suprised to see this topic here.
I have researched death and the methods of execution for a long time.
This topic is also one of the most disputed.
Death or not. Here in NYC death has been abolished.
Some say that the death penalty doesnt deter people from murder.
I always felt the death penalty was a great way to keep people from murder.. but if it doesnt, then why is it in place?
If one of my loves one were killed Id wanna see the person suffer and nowadays they have cable in jail when some of us out in the world cant afford it.
Is life in jail real punishment or are some people content with this sentence and willing to kill knowin that they will not die?
I have mixed feelings about the death penalty.

do we ever have absolute certianty that what we see is the truth .
THE police beat a retired black school teacher and i heard people defend this action by the police .HE SHOULD OF DONE AS HE WAS TOLD and ordered by the police had he complied then he would of been fine. they would not of beaten him had he not resisted arrest and he was not drunk or on drugs just confused and in need of assistance.HE wanted directions and the police told him to move along he tried to get there attention again and now had it .lets see some id whats your name what are you doing here get over there by the wall what is your problem stand still do not move and the beating begins.a sixty 5 year old man is beat by police in there thirtys who also asult a camera man and reporter.SOUND familiar .
WE live in a police state and have more people in prison then any country in the world today .
AND some are innocent , some will go back to crime as soon as trhey are released and some will be arrested again in a few weeks of release others a few years .
plenty of innocent people are behind bars but the majority are guilty .
I OPPOSE the death penelty not for the innocent but killing is wrong and the messege it is ok leaves room for debate on who what where when and why this leads to more violence and killing.do we defend america by attacking IRAQ if you follow the its ok to kill rule it is .WE must end the kill others mentality which i assume you already have adopted before the death in your family .I am sure in the grand sceam of everything you will be re-united in the future so do not worry about your stand and defend peace .

I wouldn't want people executed either, except with all the toxic human filth piling up in prisons, you sort of got to let the death row people know that there is some reason for calling it death row.
Three people on death row, all saying "I didn't do it". Two of them actually murdered someone. But courts have concluded that the three of them looked like they murdered people. How are we to tell? Do we let three go free because we think that maybe one of them possibly didn't really murder at all? How do we know? If I found and presented evidence in three murders that pointed to those three people, just who do I believe? The evidence or three people saying "I didn't do it"?
I'm sorry for your aunt. I have a cousin, really sweet girl, that was kidnapped, raped, and murdered. The person who did it? A convicted murderer that was released early. He shouldn't have been released at all! Recently, judges in my town handed down two sentences in two separate crimes on the same day. A man molested a child and was sentenced to prison for the rest of his life. Another man murdered a stranger during an argument and was sentenced to about two-dozen years in prison. The moral of the story? If you are going to do some terrible deed, do it to a stranger and strangle them, because if you do a lesser deed to family and let them live you will never be let out of jail. How's that for fair?
The problem isn't the death penalty, it is the courts and system of justice. Deadly people need to be prevented from continuing to be deadly, they need to die. But punishments need to be fairer and deadly punishments need to be only for those we definitely know did the deadly deed, not just those that look that way. I appreciate your bring up the subject though.

Have you seen how some of those people live. They have cable TV the internet and they eat some pretty damn good food. A cousin of mine was in prison and he wrote me a letter saying he didn't mind being in prison that much, yesterday they had shrimp for dinner and tonight they were having steak. Its an eye for an eye and if you killed a member of my family you better hope that the judicial systems gets a hold of you before I do. I am sorry for the inocent that have died but that happens all over the world. No system is perfect. But asking for the death penalty to be completely removed is underlly rediculous. I am sorry about you aunts death and I do appreciate your opinion! I hear ya loud and clear!!!

Gosh....I believe the number is far greater than that. I believe over one million are killed each year!
The number of babies aborted each year is a shocking statistic. Since the legalization of abortion in 1967 there is an annual rate of 1,558,000 babies aborted in the United States. If there were a cemetery big enough for all of these unborn babies it would cover an area of 47,000 square miles, which is bigger than Pennsylvania. (Clowes 321). The abortion rate in the United States is an overwhelming number. The women that follow through with this horrible form of birth control are not being fair to the unborn babies. Seventy–six percent of women that have abortions give the excuse of not wanting to change their life (Day 9). This invalid excuse is an act of selfishness. Teenage pregnancy accounts for a large amount of abortions in the United States. Twenty-one percent of abortions come from young women nineteen years of age and younger. More than half of the world’s pregnancies are unplanned and forty-seven percent of those end in abortion (Day 8). The high amount of abortions performed in the world is a disgrace and an unforgiving act.

You should have explained to the feeble minded that those are 122 PROVED innocent. It does not mean that many more weren't.
Yes, and Texas has expedited the destruction of material evidence used in the trial of death row convicts, such as panties, that could contain DNA used to prove innocence, in order avoid annoying appeals.

Yes I know. Makes murderers of all those that go along with it. Murder is murder, even if state sanctioned.
I think life without parole is more of a punishment, plus if you find you made a mistake, you can still give them back what's left of their life.
Some murderers (Ted Bundy for example) killed to be caught and killed. Don't do them the favor.

How many of those "innocents" were just anonymously drug off the street and sentenced to death?
Keep in mind that people who frequent places where crimes are generally committed, who hang out with a criminal element, or who partake in near-criminal activities are placing themselves in the sights of law enforcement, guilty or innocent.
And, trials are lengthy processes. Lynch mobs are (thankfully) few and far between nowadays.

The average cost of housing an inmate is about $40,000 a year.
I don't want my tax money wasted on someone that can never be trusted in society. Execute them...the quicker the better
