ok billies dad died on september 1 1982 of cancer,he went to the funeral,cried and ran home and locked the door.well when his mom went home, she knocked on his door to see if he was doing ok,he said "wake me up when september ends".Thats where the title comes from.The song is about his dad,remebering him!"Like my fathers come to past"in wake me up when september ends tell you its about his father.The video part of the war is just a different story but related to what happened to him!

it's about the war in iraq. The kid is being shipped out and starting in the war. They use September because of 9/11. I have a nephew who is home, a cousin still there, and my best friend's husband is home. They COMPLETELY understand the song. You have to do things you never imagined (not everyone enjoys it and tortures prisoners), and, like one said, can only pray God will forgive you. September ending is the war ending.

I forgot the words to the song, but he wants to miss all of summer because of something bad that a girl did to him. He said wake me up when september ends, and I hope you had the time of your life.

It refers to the September 11 attacks, and it probably a good interpretation of it would be that he wanted to wake up when all the pain and suffering ended. =/

Well the September bit is cos it wos in September that Billie Joe's (the lead singer) dad died. Then that kinda links into the whole theme of war in the video what with the "fathers" of this nation - the people who put their lives at risk fighting for their country.
