Too Late To Learn? OF COURSE NOT!
I read about people all the time who started playing the violin when they were much older than you are! It's not the same instrument, but I have a friend who started playing the standing bass when he was almost DOUBLE your age!
In some ways starting to play an instrument when you are mature is an advantage. You already know what you want to do, and will probably be more devoted to the instrument and willing to invest the time and effort than a teenager!
Now if your question is, can I still be a virtuoso soloist and tour the world giving concerts, that may be a different story. These folks have already taken years to develop their talent and their technique. They have already developed the publicity they need to become well known. (Six-year old prodigies show up on television. 25-year olds don't develop quite as much interest for the most part.)
If you question is whether or not you can learn to play so that others enjoy your music and (more importantly) can you enjoy yourself, then the answer is ABSOLUTELY! GO FOR IT!
Resources you can look at?
http://www.violinstudent.com has a lot of information online already, and we're growing day by day. Here's a Beginner Fiddle page I'm working on right now!

Is a Yahoo Group. As of this writing the group has more than 2840 members. So you're sure not alone!

I love this site.
How long does it take to learn? Boy, is that an open-ended question! I'm 51 and have been playing for 40 years. Still learn something new all the time!
6 months to a year should have you playing some good basic stuff if you put the effort in! But it really depends on what you want to play! I hope this gets you going in the right directon!

If you have the desire, you can accomplish virtually anything -including the violin.
How long will it take? It depends upon how much time you can devote to learning. Also, each person learns at a different pace, so don't worry about how long it will take, just enjoy the experience -it will happen if you love it enough.
Here's a good movie to watch to help get you motivated to play the violin -if not just to enjoy. It's called Music of the Heart. I just watched it the other day and I really enjoyed this true story.

If you want to try something new, try it. It is harder to learn a new skill as an adult compared to a child, but you can still do it. The amount of time it takes to learn something depends on what level you are getting to. To just be able to play and have fun, a year or two. To be able to play in a professional orchestra, many years.

Never too late! The first one or two years of violin playing are miserable (I know from experience). However, if you can get past the awkwardness and squeaking and counterintuitive nature of playing this demanding instrument, it will become natural and fun.

it's never too late to start playing, I'm 27 and I've just gotten one. I was inspired by a girl I knew that started when she was 25 and is now playing for weddings, and even sits in on small orchestra groups.
Absolutely, you're young.
