Here we are wasting millions of dollars to keep gays from being able to marry, and we are cutting the Homeland Security budget. Where is the logic in that?

Funds are allocated to different departments respectively. Those departments use the funds in the way they find necessary. Each department receives X amount of money per fiscal year. If they do not use all of this money during the fiscal year, they will receive less money the next fiscal year.

But look, it's not like bush is sitting in his office saying "Ok boys, spend X-million to keep gays from gettin' hitched. And let's cut x-amount of cash to homeland securiTY".

If you really feel the government is 'wasting' money, pay closer attention to politics then vote for the right candidate (one that represents your logical ideas) during the next election.

It is my opinion that government employees are typically not the best and brightest of the general popultation; many government employees have poor training and lack continued education; and many employees feel that they have enough job security that their actions do not have a direct impact on their careers. This is not to say there are are not highly intelligent people within government, but many people with college degrees work in the private sector because they can make more money.

So, I believe that under-educated, lazy people are making many of the decisions and that is why there is a lot of waste and many of the sories we hear do not make sense.

One last thing, the entire government is influenced by special interest groups, politicians, and each other.

It's call fraud waste and abuse and it comes from both sides of the political isle. I think it's really time for a serious change. Back to basics the federal government is too big and has its nose in too many things where it doesn't belong.

The government never wastes money, they just tell you that the money is for some legitimate purpose, and they over charge themselves and use the surplus to pay for other things like illegal operations in foreign countries, and financing wars in third world countries.
