Not likely. Most likely the compressor was already on the way out, probably leaking which is why you needed new freon.

Most likely what happened is you brought the vehicle in because the air conditioner was not working properly. They checked and found that you were low on freon (either R-12 or R134A depending on the year of the vehicle), and recharged the system. They most likely tried to find the leak with a tester, but it is not always possible to do so. You then either picked the car up, and the compressor went out, or when they were working on the car, they found that the compressor was bad. A bad compressor will leak freon, so the lack of cooling could have be caused by the compressor in the first place.
The dealer did not do anything that would cause your compressor to go bad.

Yes...if he put old freon into the new system. The type of refrigidant used changed a couple of years ago....the old kind is not compatible with the new compressors and the new kind is not compatible with the old compressors

Maybe he forgot to put the oil in it, or the wrong grade of 'freon'.
