Why are you all worried about what people think of you?

I t seems like every time I turn around someone is saying omg I have to have those new boots made out of cat hair because paris hilton has them omg she thinks they are hot. Why? Why do people have to follow in other people's foot steps can't you just have your own style and wear what you choose to be happy in reather or not paris hilton or nikki hilton is wearing them?

There are people in the world that admire stars and want to look like them and feel the best way to do that is have the same possessions. I think it's fine for people to do this as long as it makes them happy and they don't do it in an obsessive way! I think it's also due to the fact that these possessions always seem to look really good on the stars and people think that they will look just as good and want to get the same attention as the stars do!

People have an innate desire to fit in and belong. It's a pack mentality that is biological (it's in our DNA) in nature. Packs are safer from predators than individuals, and it also provides a greater sense of survivability against other environmental events and elements. Paris Hilton represents a leader that the herd must follow in order to stave off the anxiety of being isolated and not part of a greater whole.

well i for one have never been one of those and think the whole thing is ridiculous. i've never been concerned with what anybody i don't know thinks of me on any subject whether its clothes or anything else. and the whole fashion thing i've never had the time or energy for. anyone who is going to think more or less of me because i wear a certain kind of shoes is not worth having around anyway. and come one, look at what some of these idiots pay for shoes or handbags, come on they are shoes! i think these designers must be sitting back and laughing at what huge suckers there are in the world, while paying cash for their mansion! i saw a thing about women have surgery on their feet so they can wear designer shoes! that is simply insane and i think any dr. who would actually perform that surgery on someone who is that obviously unstable should lose his license immediately!

Funny you should mention this. Me and my husband were just talking about this subject this morning. I finally got him to get a tattoo. He said now he is like everyone else, I said no, that he isn't because he is so clean cut and has his own style. I have had tattoos since before they were the "thing" to get and have always had my own style. It is the ONLY way to be!

Our culture teaches us from a very young age to be consumers. I hope the next generation increasingly understands that objects (regardless of style or brand) are not what makes a person truly great.
