Did you have an epidural for many hours during labor? That could be the reason your baby is sleeping so much. It takes up to 2 months for the drugs from the epidural to leave the baby's body.
In addition, every baby is different. Some *undrugged* babies are just sleepier than others. There's no way to know exactly how much any particular baby will sleep at any given age...

My son is 4 1/2 months old. He will gradually get up more. He is still a newborn and needs lots of sleep. Just make sure he eats atleast every 4 hours. Some Dr.'s recommend every 2. He needs the rest for brain development. I know you may feel like you don't get enough time with him since he's sleeping but for now take that time and sleep too. My son now only sleeps a total of 5 hours between 7 and 7. Every child is diffrent though.

Yes, babies sleep alot. The older they get, the less sleep they require, The 1st 2 months are mainly sleep. Third month you'll notice them up a bit more. By 6 months, they are taking like 5 naps a day. At around 3 months they usually start sleeping through the nights and forming a pattern.

Let him sleep it helps him grow.
My little boy is three weeks old and sleeps all the time and because of the hot wheather I bath him everyday and he stays awake about an hour everyday with his eyes open looking around then falls asleep again after.
You could try giving him a bath see if it wakes him up abit. They say it wakes some babies up and makes others sleep.

Tha'ts a good thing, My baby was awake all the time and it drove me nuts....I had to wake up like 10 times a night, and I lost 25 lbs 2 weeks after I gave birth 'cause I was so exhausted....
He will eventually and you'll get to spend more time with him... :)

As long as he's eating okay and wetting and pooping lots of diapers, take it while you can get it. It may not last forever (though you might luck out and just have a baby that sleeps a lot!)
thank your heavens, sister. my baby was up 6-7 times a night at that age.

how long has he been awake since he was born? i mean, a few hours at a time? babies need a lot of sleep. i wouldn't worry about it, but ask the pediatrician. make sure your baby is drinking milk and is healthy, that's all that matters. babies are very different from each other.

Sleep is good. You're lucky to have that peace. After 3 or 4 maonths they start becoming interested in the world around them.

yes he will stop sleeping all the time. but he's still a newborn and like all baby's they need their sleep and within a couple of weeks or so he'll be keepin you up all hours of the night and sleep during half of the day so yes he'll stop sleeping all day but there's going to be times when you would wish that he'll still be sleep lol
