I don't vote for Republicans or Democrats or Christians, Catholics, Latter Day Saints or Jews. I vote for candidates, platforms, agendas and character.
Although in recent elections, the quality issues have fallen away as most have tried to demean their opponent's record rather than flaunt their own.

To answer the first question, it depends on the candidate. I try to vote based on moral character and view on issues. If an LDS candidate seems the best choice, then yes, I would vote for them.
For the second question, yes, I think religion will be a factor in the election. If the candidate is a Mormon who is living their religion the best they can, that will affect their platform in a good way. (The candidate who's living the Mormon religion will be a good, upstanding citizen who doesn't break the laws). While there are people who vote based on merits alone, there are others who would never vote for a Mormon because they are Mormon. So, I'm guessing the voting could go either way.

A politician's fatih matters not to me. I'm afraid it will with some - strangely with many Evangelical Christians. Polls show that they are less likely than others to vote for a LDS candidate.
I think both are respectable men and I look forward to hearing more from them as time moves forward.
