I am sick and tired of seeing where some lunatic ate someone or where some mother killed her six kids. I don't care to see about some girl who was strangled with her own bikini or where a girl has gone missing in Bermuda or wherever. I want real news that effects me and my family and my country. How does this sensationalism serve us as a community? Personally, I think it undercuts our trust in each other. What do you think?

I think you are right. I think the reason why the news media does this though, is because the natural human reaction to generalized fear is to make people want to stay informed. They manipulate our emotions to get more viewers so that they can charge more for commercials - sick huh?
Meanwhile, we are getting less and less informed about the state of the world. There are all kinds of human rights abuses, wars, and environmental issues that are being ignored in order to show these meaningless fear-inducing stories on the news.
Just think how much good could be achieved if new stations focused attention on problems that could be fixed if people paid attention to them as opposed to stories that scare us silly.

I'm not 100% sure but in some way you are right...to fear ech other's yes,
but in another way, if we changes thoses news to put some more of what I call "Me related" , there is a danger to fall in "Auto-personalized-news-clips", trap. Everything, like Yahoo radio station, will be totally managed by the Programs, and you Statistics, Ratings, so all news, that you will see, will be related to you, to what you like, and you only see subjects that you may like. Its very dangerous because, you lose an objective point of view, the other's versions...Think 3 second you'll understand...
I so agree that all this sensationalism is very bad, so we need a middle point, we could have a open source place to still have access to those news. It could be mre specialized, like in Children kidnaping...Good luck finding your answer because it a big question...

I would be happy if the media would report facts on wheather and then crawl back into the holes they came from.

i couldnt agree more...they seem to like to stimulate our fear and emotions presumably to get more viewers or theoretically the media could be manipulated by govt to sway us into accepting anything...isnt that propaganda? i think so...
