Brand names are one thing, but it's your feet that are going to matter. The more comfortable they are on your feet, the better you will play.
Simply trying them on at the store will only give you so much, as how the cleats themselves react to whatever field your playing on will differ. If you can afford more than one pair, I'd recommend getting one pair with short cleats for dry, hard fields, one with longer cleats if the field is wet.
I'd also recommend a pair with a little extra padding in the toungue. Currently a lot of pro players in Europe have been playing in light weight cleats with no padding on the tongue, and we've seen a shape rise in foot injuries (Wayne Rooney's broken his foot a couple of times, as I recall.)

I like my Nike Vapors. For cleats I'd go Nike, everything else another brand.

adidas...i got some adoable white and navy blue ones...
i've had em for a year, and they havn't fallen apart from playing anf training soccer every day!~
