The actor who played the father, John Ritter, died on September 11, 2003. He died of a heart complication. The show used to be called "8 simple rules for dating my teenage daughter", but was changed to "8 simple rules" after his death. The show ran for 2 seasons following John Ritter's death.

John Ritter passed away in real life. So they had to put it into the show. It was on the news. Really sad. Later they brought in David Spade he played the Uncle but, I don't think the show made it after that. Heres some links of info. on John Ritter.

John Ritter died in 2003. I think they just play reruns now, but I'm not much a fan of the show.

They killed him off in the show because he clapsed on the set and later died in the hospital. God Bless John Ritter.

he died in real life and they had to make a few episodes where they found out he died and put the ladys dad on the show and her brother to replace him since he died
