Can anyone tell me:

1. Does it hurt?
2. How long will I be off work for?
3: When will I be able to make love to the wife after the operation?

i had it 2. and let me tell you, if the medicine they give you to make you fall asleep fades too early you will be in some pain, but if it lasts, you will just feel tired and most of the pain would be gone. Also, if you are going for it one of your male relatives (dad, grandfather, uncle, etc) probably had it 2 because it is normally genetic. me and my father both had it. as for work, you should probably take a week off. and when it comes to any physical activity(intercourse, sports, running, etc) you should ask your doctor because depending on the condition you are in after surgery you may need to wait anywhere from 2 weeks to 1 1/2 monthes.

hope it goes well

Hernia surgery has changed a lot since I had mine done 20 years ago. It will hurt but they will give you meds take them. You will be out of commission for a few days not longer than a week. As for love making give yourself a few weeks and go easy at first. My wife said that after the hernia repair it was like being on the honey moon again.

Depends what type of hernia. Had an epigastral hernia, didn't know it at the time, till it ruptured, which did hurt. The op went fine and I was on such heavy painkillers I can't say I remember any pain, however, they sent me home with just paracetamol and It was sore and tender, though not particularly painful. I wasn't allowed to carry anything for six weeks though, but they never told me about having sex, I don't think it was six weeks though. Ask your doctor or surgeon, it is actually the most common question asked, particularly by men. Hope all goes well and wish you a speedy recovery.

You have not said if your hernia is umbillical or inguinal or ventral. You will be off work for one week. It usually is 6 weeks for intercourse. good luck
