Yes most places accept American money but some places may not give you the full exchange rate. Your best bet is to exchange your money before you leave to get the best rate. In Canada you will get a better rate at the banks than elsewhere although there might be a fee for doing so. Travellers cheques are a good idea too or as others said use your credit or debit card. The exchange rate on $1.00 American right now is about $1.13 so it's not as high as it used to be. If you visit Canada from another country you can also apply for a tax rebate for any G.S.T. or H.S.T. that you pay on purchases or accommodations. This website explains what can be claimed and how to claim. http://gocanada.about.com/od/canadatravelplanner/qt/Money.htm Hope this helps.

You should know that we will take your money, but we don't like giving change back or fair exchange rates. It's a Canadian thing, that's how we fund the free health care system ( well free for us anyway ). Be careful if you do get change because we're notorious for giving you back Canadian Tire money which can only be spent at our favorite all purpose home and car care store. Just about every Canadian has fifty dollars worth, me included so watch out for that. Be careful with our beer too, that stuff sneaks up on you; you don't want to come out of a drunken stupor and find out that your in our dog team police brigade heading across the frozen plains of northern Ontario,it's cold above that tree line! If you run into any trouble email me, as a Canadian I'll be able to help; I won't be able to get your money back but I will be able to get you away from those dog sledders! See you soon and the first rounds on me!

Certain places do, you're better off to just exchange your money or use your debit/credit cards because most places won't bother or will give you their own exchange rate which won't be very good.

Yes, you should definitely exchange or use credit/debit. We found out on our last trip that personal exchange rates are mostly bad.

All the hookers do and it's probably ok if you're offering bribes to cops. Other than that, no way.
