Why is voter turn out generally much lower for local elections, than it is for national elections?

Don't local elections have a greater impact on our daily lives?

They aren't advertised as well as the state or national elections. A lot of people have recently moved to the area and don't know enough about the local issues to vote on them. If I'm not fully informed, I don't vote.

Some people just do not wish to become involved with local. They assume what harm can there be if the wrong person gets in. Usually, these people are the same that don't really vote for presidential elections either.

They are more important for things that happen in our daily lives.
