I am not a democrat, but I don't like the way that this war is going in Iraq at all. As far as what I would do, I would set a deadline for pulling out of Iraq. Terrorists recruit using the fact that the US is occupying a country in the Middle East. People from the Middle East get most pissed when another person or country has taken their land. It is a cultural thing (although, I think that I would be pissed too if Sadam had come in and taken over the US). If there were a deadline, we could at least show that we are not in Iraq to steal their land. Then, we need to PULL OUT and not interfere anymore.
This should make you feel safer because there are fewer terrorists being recruited than there are currently.

I'm an Australian.
Why would you feel safe with a war going on?
Most people would feel safe without a war. The government of USA and Australia have been deliberately trying to make people feel unsafe. That allows their heavy handed foreign policy to go unchecked.
I can assure you that the war has not made the world a safer place.
Do you really think that terrorists are any less likely to attack now? Its more likely because they will be pissed off with Team America throwing its weight around and killing so many innocent Iraqi and Afghani civilians.
Most of the civilised and educated world thinks you guys have gone whacko with Bush at the helm.
Please add comment, what have the recent middle east wars achieved for america or its allies??

I am completely appalled at your attitude and I have reported you for inciting violence against the very earnest Iranian man asking an honest question. As a Republican you may be expected to support your president, but guess what, you know nothing of what you are talking about and you are filled with an irrational hatred for countries and people you know nothing about. I'll give you some facts. The fact is, the United States is the biggest threat to world peace and most of us think that America has been and remains a global bully. The nation that has killed the most people in the last 50 years is the United States of America. But I guess that is to be expected from a country founded by the genocide of the indigenous inhabitants and the enslavement of Africans. Grow up.
BTW I am a conservative White male from an English speaking country.

I'm not saying they would, but they could:
1) Actually shore up home security by securing the ports, airports, water supplies and all those other places where we've talked a lot but done little in the last five years.
2) Introduce a withdrawal plan for Iraq that's based, not on a timetable, but on Iraqi readiness. One Democratic candidate for Congress has suggested that we withdraw one regiment of our troops everytime an Iraqi regiment is ready for action. Right now, we say the Iraqis have X number of troops ready, but then don't trust them to get the job done. Either someone is lying or it's time to get some of our troops out. If indeed the Iraqi military has 60,000 soldiers ready for action, then we should draw down by 60,000. And frankly, if those 60,000 can't do the job right now, then there's no chance they ever will be able to do so.
3) Re-engage in multilateral diplomacy. I know Republicans since Bush II have hated trying to live in the real world, but having friends is much safer than having enemies. Clinton may have engaged in a sort of appeasement with North Korea, but they weren't lobbing missiles our way when we engaged them. Similarly, the Middle East peace plan under Clinton failed, but as long as we were engaged--rather than looking on with our arms folded, as we do these days--the region remained more stable.
This, by the way, is not wimpy liberalism, its realpolitik--Republican presidents invented it and executed it quite well, from Nixon to Bush I.
In short, we're safer if we shore up our security on our own shores, fight the battles that directly affect our national security, and hold out hands to our allies rather than going around rattling people's cages at random.

As a Democrat ,I believe any one of the Democrats ,would not have invaded Iraq , they would have took care of Afghanistan first. because there was no reason for Iraqi War. Except Baby Bush wanted to finish the Job His Dad did not , in his opinion. I hate to see any Party have to get us out of this mess, It is not what any good president , wants to have to do, If you feel safe "Tell your President to stop spending money on Home land Security." and Stop the war.
If you don't ,then ask your self why? A lot of Solders have gave their life to do the impossible.

Let's see for starters we wouldn't have sent half the country's armed forces to a desert for absolutely no reason and instead we'd use them here at home.
Secondly, since we had enough sense to let iraq alone, we would have used the money saved domestically to ensure that our transit systems, our airports, our seaports and our borders were secure.
Thirdly, we would now be in a real position to use military force to actually go after nations like Iran and Korea who actually HAVE wmds.
Finally, we would not be wiretapping ordinary americans, and looking at their library records as it is contrary to American ideals.
