The same reason Green Day are sellouts probably.

Green Day was banished from where they started, because the punk community didn't like how big they had grown, calling them sellouts. Since punk music is all about staying low and not anything about the money, it really hurt their rep there, and they were forced to come mainstream. Something similar to that probably happened to Fall Out Boy, even though they're not really punk

and they do suck.

Every single band that has ever signed a contract in the history of music is a SELLOUT! That's how bands make it big, and sorry to say. It is the only way a band will ever make it big.

I know of a lot of really good bands, but they still have to sell out to get good contracts. They have to turn some control over to the record companies. They have to get there songs and albums approved before they are released. Some are even told what songs to play or not.

World class bands that have been around for a long time usually don't have those restrictions anymore, but I guarantee you that they did when they were starting out.

Any new band HAS to sell out at least a little to get anywhere. They can only make it so far independantly. If they are good enough, and they do really well by themselves they are always picked up by a major label, and guess what. They have to sign contracts that sell them out to some degree. That is the music industry.

I think that some of their fans think that they have sacrificed their musical instinct and distinctive edge to do music that is more "commercially" acceptable to a Top 40's mass market.

Personally, I like their music and I don't think that they have "sold out". It is just that musical tastes are maturing, growing, evolving and improving while retaining their original core values and sound.

And to those that think they have "Sold Out" keep in mind that no band that has had any longivity has the exact same sound now as they did when they got started for the same reasons that I have indicated above. The ones that one to stick to the same 3 chords and vocal arrangements and don't try to grow and expand musically end up working dive bars and usually have to get a day job.

that's probably because they make songs a lot of people can dig. This makes the heads of self-proclaimed underground wannabees heads hurt. The only way the hurting will stop is when they dismiss the music as stupid and only fit for stupid people. Kinda sad....but kinda true as well. Maybe Metallica does have all the answers, if they weren't complete sell-outs! heheh

Because they actually wrote a song with the words 'Sugar we're going down swinging' in it... That and people in their band like to take pictures of their wayners. Anyone can write that kind of garbledee goop.
