Since I nursed my daughter, she was put on those drops at 6 month of age since that's when they need to start getting fluoride. My dentist is actually the one who told me she should be on them, and so I asked the pediatrician and she agreed. Ask your pediatrician.

i could see the flouride if you don't have flouride in your water and/or you are still nursing your baby. although, if you drink a lot of flouridated tap water, your baby is getting the flouride from you.

i would definitely consult a pediatrician about the vitamins. your baby is probably starting to eat cereals? maybe solids? the cereals are fortified with extra vitamins. so is formula.

my doctor told me that my son was getting plenty of good stuff and didn't need vitamins at that age. maybe in a couple years when he won't eat anything but mac and cheese for a week - then i could think about vitamins!

I was told by my dr. that as long as my son is just breast fed baby vitamin d is all he needs. once your son is eating solids he shouldn't need flouride. Id call dr. and a dentist. Since dr.'s arent specialized with teeth the dentist may have some helpful tips for you. I know childrens toothpaste doesn't have flouride b/c they dont want children swallowing it(flouride). They get enough in water.

Read the article on the following link from the Prevention website. Tell me if fluroide sound like a good thing. And if it is so safe then why all the warning labels on the back of the tube of toothpaste?

And in answer to your question: It is important that you DO NOT give the child the drops.

No, my dr. prescribed them to me for my 6 month old a few months ago. I never filled them. Read up on the bad things flouride does. They say it is good for your teeth, but if you research it, it can be very harmful. People in the 1800's didnt have flouride drops and they kept their teeth. I wouldnt give him anything that he doesnt have to have. As long as your not leaving him witha bottle overnight, his teeth are going to be fine. My 6 yr. old was never put on the drops and she has the straightest whitest teeth. I even buy a non-flouride toothpaste for her (found in most health stores). So, no he doesnt have to have it.

Unless you do not have fluoride in your tap water, your little one does not need any extra. If you are on well water or an area that the city does not already add it then your doctor may recommend some. To much fluoride can be harmful.
