Why should there be any problems with how you look? If that's the case the I would look for another girl.
It's your personality that's important. Girls don't like wussies. They like guys who are confident, nice and funny, in short, they like winners.
If you can give her that impression, then you have come a long way. If you don't feel like a winner then start act like one, because the thing is, sooner or later you realise that you are not acting like a winner, you have become a winner!
Just remember this: A winner tries to win a girls heart by bying her gifts, he doesn't need that.
Also, a winner is never arrogant or mean (although you can always be a little cocky in a friendly way), he is humble. If someone says he is good a typical answer would be: I was lucky.

Try this, get someone who looks worse than you to ask her out first. Chances are she will say no to your friend but tell him to be persistent. Then swoop in and claim to be her boyfriend and get your friend to leave. You will receive brownie point's and maybe other rewards ;)
